The French Paradox

French women are slender, chic, drink wine, and eat cheese. Let me re-phrase: French women are chic, slender, drink wine, and eat cheese...what? For Americans, this means weight gain, but for the French it means a great meal. Is this a paradox?

Mireille Guiliano, in her charming memoir/diet book, French Women Don't Get Fat, suggests that the devil is in the portion size, not the food. She encourages women to eat the "French way": eat a little of everything that is fresh and tasty, indulge responsibly in wine, drink water, and walk. Guiliano makes clear that this is not a paradox, but a commitment.

Despite this insight, Americans are still interested in determining how French women interact with food.

Josh Friedland gathered four French women bloggers together for a Morning News Roundtable talk about their relationship with food and "The French Paradox." Read more about this here.
